I’ve been reading this strange book; The Book Thief. I actually began it earlier in 2020 but needed a break because the subject of mortality was too close to home and I didn’t know how to handle my feelings then. Anyway, after having a tough first holiday season without my Dad, having lost him in August 2020, I did find myself thinking of going back to said book, for some reason. Maybe it was the whole quest to understand death and mortality and maybe give it a chance to explain itself?… Anyway, that’s how it ended up being my first read of 2021. I find the writing so strangely beautiful, and it’s the kind of book that forces you to think about life in the simple mundane stuff and appreciate it even when the bigger things plague you. Read it sometime. It’s worth it if I’m talking about it here:) Maybe you’ll have a different opinion?
Also, I’m curious, what book are you currently reading, if any? Despite it being a new year I haven’t stopped the habit of leaving books half-read so I’m actually trying to finish two more from last year. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t struggle to finish a book. If I get to a point where I find the content or the writing is not resonating anymore, I put it aside and go on to something new. When I feel like it, I might return. Or not. Not a big deal for this reader. Oh, and by the way, I did find this cool Instagram shop that sells pre-owned books! I must say if you, like me, are addicted to buying books as much as reading them, then this place might just be what will save your money in 2021.
Another old habit of mine I don’t mind bringing over to 2021 is shopping my closet. True I’m one of those people who has the weakness of being tempted to shop for every arising occasion. For the past two years though, I’ve been getting a lot better on the shopping my closet front. Maybe because I didn’t have much time to shop. So I’m trying to perfect the art of getting quality pieces every time I shop, over quantity. I do think this is a habit you could adopt too and will save you some money this year. Case in point, this lovely crochet dress I wore to a lunch the old me would have definitely bought a new outfit for. Ah so proud 🙂
Hoping your 2021 is off to a great start and don’t be afraid to carry the good things over to the new year!
